Weblogs (blogs):

A weblog is a website that consists of a series of entries arranged in reverse chronological order, essentially a web diary which is a log that you keep online. This is often updated on frequently with new information on particular topics. The content can be written by the site owner, as well as taken from other sources, or contributed by users. Weblogs are usually dedicated to one or several subjects and topics.

These blogs are created using specific publishing software, wordpress is an example of a weblog as it allows you to create your own online blog to your own specifications:

Tumblr is site which allows the user to quickly post images, videos, links, and audio on their own tumblr logs. Users can easily post and share posts on this free site.

Each user has their own blog that can be customised but has its own timeline for easy access which can be seen in the screenshot above.

At the top of your homepage timeline there is a bar which has seven different upload options; text, photo, quote, link, chat, audio and video. These are all the different types of content which can be uploaded onto your blog.

The bar at the top of the tumblr page has a number of different features, first there is a search box to search the content of the entire site, the home sign is to be used to return to your timeline homepage, the discovery icon (the compass) is used to discover posts and pages which are recommended to you by the site from your existing posts, the envelope icon is for your messages which are sent to you, the speech bubble is for direct messaging between you and other users, the lightning bolt is for notifications, the person is your account and its features, and finally the pencil in a light blue box is for writing posts.
