Multimedia Message Service (MMS):

What are the limitations/abilities of using this type of messaging service?

Multimedia is an enhanced version of short message service, SMS. MMS offers enhanced content delivery, making it similar to email between phones. The most significant advantage of MMS is that it supports not only text but also photos and videos recorded on your phone. On some phones you can also use emoticons to personalize your text. Length is a significant advantage because you are not limited to 160 characters unlike SMS, allowing you to send longer messages and embed more content.

A limitation of MMS is that it is a costlier messaging service, making your phone plan more expensive and so it may not be supported on all phones. Furthermore, messages by MMS are charged to both the sender and recipient, including people that may not want to pay at all.
